Transplantation


The parent of a child who underwent an organ or bone-marrow transplant, may be entitled to a disabled child allowance from birth to age 18 years and three months, provided that he meets the basic requirements.

Entitlement to the benefit is determined according to the amount of time passed since the transplantation and the treatment given to the child thereafter:

  • After the transplantation - an entitlement of 235% is established for a period of 3 months regarding self transplant, and 6 months regarding donor transplant, for prolonged and heavy medical treatment.
  • After 3 or 6 months from the transplant date - entitlement of 100% is established for the period of time during which the child is under a permanent and daily immunosuppressive treatment designed to inhibit the immune system. Entitlement is temporarily determined for a period of three years since the transplant.

If the child is still receiving prolonged and heavy medical treatment or is totally dependent on the help of others for everyday functions, the continuation of his entitlement at the increased rate of 235% may be examined.

Documents to be submitted   

Important to know!

  1. Attaching comprehensive documents to the claim will allow us to examine the child's eligibility for the allowance without summoning him or her before the board.
  2. It is important to bring up-to-date medical documents from the past year regarding the child's medical and functional condition, to let us also verify allowance eligibility for a retroactive period of up to 12 months.
  3. If eligibility is determined on the basis of the documents, the possibility of requesting, within 45 days, to be examined by the board in presence of the child will be retained.

Benefit rates

Benefit rate depends on the entitlement determined according to the amount of time passed since the transplantation and the treatment given to the child thereafter, as defined above, and is as follows:

  • Entitlement of 100% - Benefit rate amounts, with the additional monthly pension, to NIS 3,694 .
  • Entitlement of 235% - Benefit rate amounts, with the additional monthly pension, to NIS 6,947 .

The benefit is paid retroactively for up to one year prior to the date of claim submission.

Important

  • You are entitled to receive, free of charge, advice and preparation for appointments at the Medical Board provided by "Helping Hands" centers.
  • If you were summoned to appear with your child before a Medical Board and your child does not require assistance for everyday functions– you may request these activities to be excluded from examination.
  • Prior to the Medical Board, it is recommended to prepare a list of your child's medical problems, and to indicate, during the Board, how these medical problems affect the functioning of the child and his parents.
  • Receiving a disabled child allowance entitles to benefits from other institutions and organizations.
